Im getting a new kitten in a few days?

Hello and THANK YOU for being a responsible cat owner and keeping her inside. I work at a cat shelter and DAILY it seems I hear another HORROR story about terrible things that happen to cats outside. Spay or neuter before they get into puberty, about 4 or 5 months for a cat. and keep inside. A small animal like a cat is no match for the dangers outdoors. Cat haters, cars, Dogs, wild animals, stray cats that carry diseases (most of which are fatal), fleas, ticks, poisoned chemically treated lawn and gardens, (the chemicals are deadly poison to cats, cat walks or brushes against it and then licks itself=death and disaster..even if u dont use them, neighbors might and you wont even know...or getting shut into garages or basements and no one finds them in time.. they starve.. YES you are making the right decision. cats dont love the outside, they get CONDITIONED to it when an owner (usually too lazy to change litter) insists cats have to go out. Cats are creatures of habit. THey are also very curious and will explore any new area.. the outside, paper bags, cardboard boxes, btw always check your oven dishwasher, washer and dryer b4 using them, cats crawl into them.. and keep ur toilet lid shut and the bathroom door closed.. Even a tiny kitten can jump surprisingly high. the water attracts them and they fall in toilets and can not get a foot hold to climb back out, it is too slippery and their legs are too short. Do not put a collar on, cats hate them and even the break aways can be strong and the cat can choke. Look on line for "safe kitten toys", there is a really great site right here on Yahoo Groups called "for the love of cats", nice people and very smart about cats with good advice or just might like to see photos of your kitten if you care to share.. Dont let kitty bite your fingers, hands or toes If she goes to Latch on , usually by "wrapping" her little paws (arms) around , she then will start to bite and go into play fight mode that gets serious. When its a little kitten some ppl think its cute, but its not so cute when the cat has teeth and claws 1/2 inch long and has learned humans are to bite and scratch . Then they write on here complaining. Give her lots of play time with you, chasing cat toys (put away any long dangling toys where she cant get them if ur not watching) as she could become wrapped in it and strangle.. A diet of exclusively dry food is thought to contribute to urinary problems in cats ( look at the posts on For the love of cats about diet) add a teaspoon of so of spring water at room temperature to meaty canned food mixed in to make a kind of gravy) they need liquid in their diets.. and have fresh clean water available all times, if u dont see them drink thats ok some cats just drink at night..
